Dave M. Davenport played the wind to get the win during the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Ohio Division 20 opener, season held April 13, 2013, on Rocky Fork Lake.
Running out of East Shore Marina in Hillsboro to fish the 1,384-acre lake in Highland County, the Milford, Ohio, angler caught five bass weighing 18.17 pounds with a 5.36-pound largemouth as a kicker. For the Boater Division victory, Davenport took home a check worth $2,010.
“This is my home lake,” Davenport said. “I grew up 30 minutes from here and fished it all my life. The sun brought the fish out into the windy areas. I caught all of my fish around wind-blown banks. I caught my fish on an Alabama rig with 4-inch Berkley hollow bellies. I caught a lot of keepers, probably close to 40 fish.”
In second for the boaters, Jim Hite of Stoutsville, Ohio, found a five-bass tournament limit for 13 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 5.05-pounder. Keith Baker of Uniontown, Ohio, finished in third place with four keepers going 10.98 pounds including a 4.90-pounder.
Dustin M. Blair of Waverly, W.Va., placed fourth with five bass at 7.53 pounds, followed by Steven J. Schubert of Rayland, Ohio, with five bass and 5.93 pounds. Donald H. Holt of Perrysburg, Ohio, set the tournament lunker standard with a 5.56-pounder.
